Looking at the specs, it’s pretty obvious that the 2016 Kia Sorento is a great family vehicle. Spacious third row seating with enough room for seven people, a great fuel economy rating, and of course a five-star NHTSA safety rating. But my favorite part of the Kia Sorento is that it doesn’t look like a family vehicle. It’s fun, sporty, and it was perfect for me to spend a week driving around in it without my kids, thanks to the generosity of DriveShop who let me borrow it!
I had a busy week of events while I was borrowing this beauty, so I was glad to have a reliable vehicle to do it all in. The Kia Sorento gets 18mpg city and 23mpg highway, and I had a lot of highway driving to do.
First up was ShiftCon 2015, a weekend conference for bloggers interested in wellness and green-living. I grabbed my beautiful friend Kia (yes that’s really her name) and we hit Manhattan Beach before the conference started. One of my favorite ways to get myself centered is to just sit (or stand) at the beach and take in the sounds and smells.
The poor Kia Sorento had to sit in the parking garage at our hotel while I was at the conference. I did sneak out for a night to get the everliving daylight scared out of me at Knott’s Scary Farm. The drive from my hotel to the park was long and slow thanks to traffic, but oh-so smooth thanks to the Kia Sorrento.
Turns out, there were four different freeways I had to take to get there (and back), but it was only about a 20 mile drive. Southern California is funny that way. The built-in navigation system was a lifesaver, as I’m known to not have a very great sense of direction. And of course I had to rock out to some pop music on the drive. It’s what I do.
To make up for having to sit in the parking garage for most of the weekend, I filled her up with goodies. There were a lot of things to take home from the conference, and when you fold the third row of the Kia Sorento down, there is a ton of room.
But even with the trunk full, I had plenty of room to fill the rest of the seats with friends and go to Disneyland. Yep, another theme park! Because when you have a cute car and no kids, who wants to stay home?
I made it a point not to do mom stuff in the Kia Sorento, because I’m always doing mom stuff! But wouldn’t you know that it would totally be perfect for mom stuff too. The spacious seating would fit all of my many children, and all of their many things.
But for a week, it was nice to remember what it was like to have a little fun and freedom again. Even if I spend it thinking about my kids and how much they’d love it too.
