While the impending doom of election results looms over the United States, you can still have a little fun! Just kidding about the doom, maybe, a little. But I’m not kidding about the fun. How fun are these candy-coated “vote” Oreos? Perfect for your election day party (do people have those?), to give out at the office (minus political opinions, please), or bring some down to your wonderful poll workers on voting day!
They’re super easy to make, even if you have minimal candy-making skills!
What you need:
One package of regular Oreos
3 cups Wilton white candy melts
3/4 cups Wilton red candy melts
3/4 cups Wilton blue candy melts
White star sprinkles
White decorator icing tube
Black decorator icing tube
(This should be enough to do an entire package of Oreos.)
Start by microwaving the white candy for 45 seconds. Remove from microwave and stir. Continue to microwave in 10 second increments until melted and smooth.
Place 2 tablespoons of melted white candy into each section of the cookie mold.
Place an Oreo in each section, on top of the melted white candy coating.
Spoon more melted white candy coating on top of each cookie, up to the top of the mold.
Freeze for about 15 minutes, or chill until solid, then pop them out and repeat until all the cookies are coated in white candy. (Keep coated cookies in a cool place while you’re working on the next batch.) If you only have one mold, this may take a while.
Once the last batch is chilling, time to melt the next color! In a microwave safe bowl, microwave the blue candy melts for 45 seconds. Stir until melted and smooth.
Dip the bottom of each coated cookie into the melted blue candy and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 10 minutes, or until the blue is hardened.
Repeat with the red coating!
Dip the top of each Oreo into the melted red candy coating and place back on the baking sheet to “set” for 10 minutes.
Dot three star sprinkles with a tiny bit of white icing and place evenly across the red section of an Oreo. Repeat for the blue section as well, so each cookie will have six stars total.
Using the black decorator icing tube, pipe the word “VOTE” in the white (middle) part of each cookie.
