At my daughter’s two year well check, the doctor asked me how many words she was able to say.
“Well, maybe ten or fifteen, I guess.”
“Ten or fifteen?”
“Well, she babbles a lot, but usually we can only make out the last word in her “sentences.”
“Hmm” is never what you want to hear from a doctor. It means they are silently judging you. At two years old she should have been talking more, but she just wasn’t. Her oldest brother was a bit of a late talker, but he was also developmentally delayed. Her other two brothers were talking before 18 months. The youngest of the brothers blew our pediatrician away as a toddler speaking full and coherent sentences. She was a babbler when she was an infant, so I just assumed she’d follow suit. [Read more…]
