Two days ago, here in the county that my family lives in, a grown man fired his gun among a group of young teenagers. Let me repeat these facts. A grown, adult man, pulled a gun from the waistband of his jeans, and fired it. Whether purposely or not, it does not matter. (Warning: the following image may be hard to look at.)

As I’m doing my taxes each year, I always think about what I’m going to do with that money when it hits my bank account. I pay a few bills, of course. But I also like to treat myself and my family to something too, and we have a few electronics that need upgrading.
If you’ll be using your refund to make some upgrades to your electronics, make that check go further at Walmart! Walmart has the best deals and lowest prices on Samsung products that the whole family can enjoy, such as TVs, home audio systems, and tablets!
My husband is a bit of a TV snob after working in electronics for a while, so thanks to him I know how great Samsung TVs are. Walmart has a great selection of Samsung TVs at low prices, plus an amazing deal for tax season. File your taxes with Jackson Hewitt Tax Service and get a $50 check back with your Samsung TV purchase of $500 or more! Click here for more details!
We got a new TV pretty recently, but we’ve been wanting to upgrade our sound system. With a 65″ screen and our big, comfy, slightly decorated with pen and markers, couch, we can all gather around for movie night pretty comfortably. A new sound bar and subwoofer system would definitely bring the experience to the next level – even when we’re watching Zootopia for the 80th time.
Walmart has great deals on Samsung tablets too, starting at $99, and including great options for kids! You can also snag a new Samsung Galaxy E Tab for yourself, and catch up on all the Netflix shows your family doesn’t want to watch with you. 😉
Whatever it is you’re looking for, Walmart has it! With that tax refund right around the corner, I trust Samsung at Walmart to make that extra cash go the extra mile.
What are you looking to upgrade with your tax refund this year?

Raise your hand if you promised yourself you were going to get healthier or more organized this year!
*raises both hands*
Two very lofty goals for myself, but I decided I needed to make some pretty major changes this year. By the end of 2016 I found myself constantly exhausted, unhappy with the way I look and felt, and frequently tiff-ing with my husband because of my lack of organization and slob tendencies.
So, I made my resolutions to do more cleaning, purging, and organizing at home to help things run smoother. I also resolved to make a pretty drastic lifestyle change (not diet) to lose the weight I need to lose and keep it off. Funny enough, I found that keeping on top of cleaning/organization actually has helped me with my weight loss goals as a kind of awesome side effect!
Traditional meal planning is not my style. I don’t tend to plan ahead, I change my mind about what I want to eat too often, and I can never stick to other people’s recipes. What works for me is what I like to call “Extreme Meal Prepping.” It probably sounds more exciting than it actually is, but what it does for me is simplify every single meal I have to make throughout the week.
This style of meal prep doesn’t work without being organized, so the first step is getting your fridge, freezer, and kitchen cleaned up and everything in the right place. Then here’s where I do things differently. Instead of planning out separate meals for the week, I prep all of my ingredients and supplies, and make them easily accessible in clear containers stacked in the fridge.
The last step is keeping the system going, which is why I have a weekly checklist right on my fridge. And because I love to share, I’ve made it available to YOU as a free printable! Click here to print! I made a cute magnetic frame for it out of craft store magnets and a document frame from the dollar store. But you can laminate it, or even just slide it into a plastic sleeve, hang it on the fridge, and check it off with a dry erase marker. (Yours will probably look better if your printer has ink in it…)
It’s pretty self-explanatory, but let me explain it anyway! I started with Monday because we have to get the cleaning/organizing down before the meal prep, right? Right.
So the first thing I do is inventory my fridge and freezer on Mondays. Include containers of leftovers in your inventory, and the date they were made if you know it! I keep my inventory list in my bullet journal planner, but you can do it wherever it fits into your life. As you use things throughout the week, you can cross them off the list, or update it as needed. Bonus: This also helps prevent me from staring into the fridge trying to figure out what I’m going to make or eat!
Then on Tuesday, we’re just gonna wipe the outside of the fridge down too. Including the top. (This is my trick to make sure I clean off the top of the fridge every week and stuff doesn’t pile up!) My fridge is old, and has seen a few different houses and held many foods. It will never look brand new again, but I do my best to make it look nice.
Wednesday and Thursday are similar. We’re just really trying to make sure leftovers get eaten, and perishable foods get used up or frozen or processed in some way before they go bad. (To avoid wasting food as much as possible.)
By Friday, there shouldn’t be much left in the fridge! This is the best day to take everything out and wipe the insides down really good.
Saturday I try to stay out of the kitchen as much as possible. We’re either out and about or doing non-kitchen-related cleaning projects. Alternatively, if Fridays are busier for you, you can always make Friday your break from the kitchen and do the fridge clean on Saturday.
On Sunday you should wake up to a beautifully clean fridge with lots of room for all the prepping you’re about to do! Sunday morning is grocery shopping day for me, and then the rest of the afternoon is cutting, dicing, blanching, boiling, rinsing, spinning, separating, and all that fun meal prep stuff.
Meal Planning Tips for Non-planners:
Tip #1: Keep a running shopping list. I don’t plan out my meals for the whole week. It just doesn’t work for me. But what I do have is basically a running list of things I need to have on hand always, and then I build meals with whatever meats and veggies are on sale, in season, or in my freezer. As I run out of things (or get low on them) during the week, I add them to my list in my phone for when I head to the store.
Tip #2: Keep an up-to-date inventory. This is part of my fridge checklist for a reason! I can plan for that night’s dinner in just a few seconds by glancing at my inventory list. If I do happen to need something from the store, I can pop in while I’m out taking the kids to school, rather than having to make an extra trip.
Tip #3: Make ingredients accessible. I wash, dry, chop, dice, slice, and store all of my veggies on Sunday. I cook up some different meats. I hard boil eggs for the week, make a week’s worth of breakfast egg cups, etc. Then everything gets put into containers in the fridge. I can easily throw together a quick breakfast or lunch for myself, and packing everyone else’s lunches is a breeze. Clear containers like my Rubbermaid® BRILLIANCE™ food storage containers make it easy to see what’s inside, so I’m not left guessing.
Tip #4: Stay clean and organized. Keep up on all those food storage containers in your fridge and freezer, never leave dishes in the sink overnight, wipe down the counters at the end of the day. I can’t even *think* about what we’re going to have for dinner if I wake up to a messy kitchen and I can’t find anything in the fridge. Not to mention trying to do breakfast and lunches at some point too. I’m more likely to just run out and grab food somewhere which would be bad for my budget (dining out comes out of the grocery budget), and it wouldn’t jive well with my weight loss either.
Without working on my organization skills, I would never be able to be as successful in reaching my weight loss goals as I have been this year. Using Rubbermaid® BRILLIANCE™ to help me with meal prep was one of the best decisions I made so far this year! My 10 pc Rubbermaid® BRILLIANCE™ set has a great variety of sizes, to fit all my storage needs. And not only are they crystal clear so you can easily see what’s inside, they stack perfectly, to keep things neat and tidy looking! I can even marinade my prepped veggies right in the containers – they’re stain and odor resistant, and they’re 100% Leak Proof. Guaranteed.
Are you ready to get organized and meet your healthy living goals all at the same time? Rubbermaid® BRILLIANCE™ is available nationwide at Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Amazon and other fine retailers. (I don’t know about you, but I can never pass on an excuse to run into Target and see what’s new!)

Have you ever been white water rafting?
I have done it only twice, and it was approximately a million years ago the last time I did. (Middle school maybe?) So, yeah, I’m long overdue.
I’ve been talking with my husband and kids about wanting to take them, because I remember just having so much doing it. They’re all pretty much on board, and it made it onto our 2017 bucket list. So when I got the email about the very promising upcoming rafting season on the Arizona Salt River, I got super excited!
Arizona’s Salt River descends from the White Mountains east of Phoenix. The river is perfect for tackling world class whitewater rafting – no flat water tubing trips here! The upper stretch of the Salt River offers challenging rapids and the inspiring beauty of truly unique setting. You can take a short and exciting half or full day Salt River rafting trip or if you have more time, you can experience what it is like to truly get away on a three or four day adventure.
Since we’re only a few hours away from Arizona, it makes a perfect weekend trip for us!
If you want to take advantage of the beautiful rafting season, Arizona Rafting and US Family Guide are offering a great deal! 15% Off Full Day Salt River Rafting for the 2017 March through May season. Get the deal on USFamilyGuide.com!

“I never get sick,” is a thing people have probably heard me say a lot. And for the most part it’s true. When a virus goes traipsing through my house, I’m usually the only one left standing. (And the one taking care of everyone, naturally.)
Recently, we took a trip from our home in Southern California, all the way across to country to the East Coast and back. In our van.
Yep, we drove four kids all the way to New York and then drove back home. [Read more…]

Happy New Year! Yes, I know January is almost over, but after we got back from our Epic Road Trip to the other side of the country and back, I promptly got really sick. I’m just now emerging from the depths of my dark bedroom, and I’m ready to kick butt this year! [Read more…]

I don’t know how to play Minecraft. At all. But, I’ve spent hours upon hours of my life watching my kids play it, and I love it.
Minecraft is a game that uses a lot of creativity. It’s about building things with natural and man-made materials and going on adventures. Players can explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles. Me, I’m personally great at digging holes in the ground, but I’ve watched my kids make some incredible structures on their Minecraft Xbox game.
There are so many different ways to play, no one ever complains about being bored. Play in Creative Mode with unlimited resources or mine deep in Survival Mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off dangerous mobs. Use different skin packs on your characters, and different world themes with different looking materials. Do all of this alone or play with friends. Or your clueless mom!
For those who are already into the game, Minecraft toys and collectibles make great gifts – and something fun to play with when screen time is over. Best Buy carries a great assortment of Minecraft products – from the Xbox One S console bundle, to additional Minecraft games, toys and collectibles. Oh and blind boxes. Because my kids are obsessed with not knowing what they’re buying!
Find everything Minecraft on the Best Buy website or in your local Best Buy store! There’s still time to get some blocky fun under the tree!

Hi, my name is Angela and my house is usually a disaster but I love entertaining! I’m sure I’m not alone. I have four kids, I work full time hours from home, volunteer at my kids’ schools more than I have time for, and also try to maintain an active social life. So needless to say, house cleaning isn’t at the top of my list.
But since I love having people over, I at least try to keep the downstairs part of the house clean. That’s where the “adult living room” is, as well as the kitchen, dining room, my parents’ room (yep they live with us) and the guest bathroom. But since that’s the only bathroom downstairs, it gets used a lot.
